Okanagan Film Commission Holds Gala Event at Media Button Studios

The Okanagan Film Commission mixed business with pleasure at their Annual Production Crew Mixer on May 14th, hosting the event at Media Button Communications, Kelowna’s newest production studio.

In the wake of announcing, “The Big Year”, a new Fox 2000 film project coming to the Okanagan, this summer, Okanagan Film Commissioner Jon Summerland was very enthusiastic about the growing infrastructure and industry support provided by companies like Media Button. “The timing of our Crew Mixer was ideal to celebrate some big recent announcements and showcase the commitment the Okanagan has to the film industry. With companies like Media Button now available to provide a production facility, post production, equipment and cinema quality cameras such as the Red One Digital, it just adds to our ability to deliver viable film services in the Okanagan.

The full house event attendees included industry professionals involved in every aspect of Okanagan film and video production. In addition to local crew, the event attracted producers from Vancouver and Calgary, and as far away as Montreal, who were all very enthusiastic about what the Okanagan has to offer filmmakers. Many commented on the positive energy they see in this film community and were pleased to show support as well as to explore the opportunities available here.

At the end of the evening Summerland added, “With the announcement of “The Big Year” coming to the Okanagan and the buzz it created at this event, our local film community is excited. The enthusiasm from some of the key players here tonight for this and other productions looking at the Okanagan has 2010 shaping up to be not only a Big Year but a Great Year!
