Promotion is an essential part of a successful social media strategy. If you want people to like, follow and generally interact with your social accounts, then you need to let them know that they exist. Simply creating the accounts and hoping people will find them is unlikely to be particularly fruitful.
So how do you promote your accounts? There are a number of ways to do it, from simple methods to more complex paid promotional campaigns. For this blog post, we’re going to focus on the basics.
In short, you should promote your social media presence wherever you can think of (within reason). Think of things your customers/people who may be interested in connecting with you on social media will see and make sure you’re represented there.
Last week, over on our social media accounts, we posted a great example of this on a can of San Pellegrino Limonata:

However, if you’re not in the business of making beverages, worry not. Here are five places that nearly all businesses can utilize to promote their social media presence…
E-mail Signatures
If you have an e-mail signature, your social media icons/links should be included in it. This is a great opportunity to subtly promote your social media channels to clients, potential clients, friends and family.
Business Cards
Include your social media info on your business cards. The people looking at your card are genuinely interested in you and your business, so take the opportunity to inform them about your social media efforts.
Front Desk/Front Window
Take advantage of your building/setup to promote your social media presence. If you’re a doctor’s office, a dentist, a salon, anywhere where people may be waiting in the lobby, take the opportunity to inform them about your social media accounts. Same with a window that sees a lot of traffic, put a poster, or similar, up in the window to promote your social media accounts.
Newsletters/Flyers
Again, people looking at your newsletters/flyers (whether offline or on) are likely to be interested in your company. Take advantage of the chance to tell them about your social media accounts.
Website
The most obvious of the bunch! Have your web team add social media icons to your website.
When promoting your presence offline, simple icons will suffice. Links can be included at a push, depending on the medium, design/available space. When promoting your social media presence online, make sure you link directly to the accounts, so people can easily access your social media accounts.
